Female French/Lingala Cultural Mediator – Athens – ACTION FOR WOMEN

Action for Women’s main mission is to provide safety, support and hope for women and girls displaced by conflict, violence and persecution.

Our Athens initiative, the Pomegranate Project, offers a holistic protection and empowerment model to enable recovery and healing for women refugees or asylum seekers, at risk or are survivors of gender based violence for meaningful integration within Greek society. We are run for women, entirely by women, and we are recruiting a female French/Lingala speaking Cultural Mediator to join our team in Athens.

You will be an integral part of our long term core team as you will be responsible for communicating the needs of our French & Lingala speaking participants of the Project.

This is a full time position (40 hours per week) for six months covered by Greek labour law, with the possibility to extend.

The successful candidate is expected to start on 1st September 2024, with a month’s probation period.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement: Assisting all team members in need of interpretation (Written and Spoken) to facilitate information sharing and awareness on issues and announcements pertaining to asylum seekers and recognised refugees living in Greece to ensure effective and open communication with our French/Lingala speaking participants
  • Registration of new students for Greek language classes
  • MHPSS Support: Provide in-person interpretation for our Psychologists in individual therapy sessions and weekly group psychosocial support activities

Protection: In-person interpretation for our Protection team. When necessary and based on request by our Social Worker: Accompanying participants of the Project to public services (hospitals, public offices)

  • Under guidance, monitor the attendance and engagement of our French & Lingala speaking community to identify barriers to participation and facilitate referrals to our Social Worker when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned (example: childcare)

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Native French/Lingala speaker with an excellent command of Greek and English or vice versa; We are an international team, our working language is English
  • Other languages such as Arabic, Farsi will be a huge advantage
  • Strong IT Literacy skills with a focus on Google documents
  • High professional ethics
  • Excellent communication skills, listening and observation skills
  • Previous experience working/volunteering in other organisations relating to protection, violence against women and/or female migrants and refugees who are survivors of gender-based violence will be prioritised
  • Team player who thrives in a multicultural team setting, with a strong ability to maintain composure, under pressure in an environment with high levels of ambiguity.

Required Qualifications and Experience Education

  • University degree in Humanitarian, Social Sciences, Social Work or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or • High school degree/certificate with two years of relevant work experience.

Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred; • Previous experience at an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility will be considered an asset; • Familiar with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees preferred; • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment an advantage; • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills; • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc); • Willingness to work in day/night shifts, during holidays and weekends; • Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience an advantage.

Languages

Fluency in Greek (written and oral) with working knowledge of English is required. Additional knowledge of Arabic and/or any other language would be considered an advantage.

Medical Coordinator – Lesvos – BOAT REFUGEE FOUNDATION

Who are we looking for?

  • You monitor the medical activities and ensure the quality of our care;
  • You do this by monitoring the follow-up of patients, keeping our medical protocols up to date and ensuring a regular and adequate supply of medicines;
  • You are responsible for referring patients to other actors when specialized care is needed (and available);

  • You are decisive and energetic and therefore able to make independent medical decisions;

  • You want to contribute to the sustainability and continuity of our programme;
  • You have experience in developing tools to monitor and evaluate the effects of a programme or activity;
  • You have a good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing, and you are an excellent writer and presenter. In addition, speaking Greek, Farsi, Arabic and/or French is a plus;
  • Having previously worked in Boat Refugee Foundations programme as a medical volunteer professional is strongly preferred.

You are available for at least nine months, starting July 2024;

You are in possession of an EU driving license B.
