Citizenship acquisition remains a topic of debate for 25 years

Individuals who are eligible for Greek citizenship face a complex process and often experience a sense of insecurity regarding their rights. Generation 2.0 RED stands by their side, providing support and guidance throughout this process, while actively monitoring the implementation of citizenship laws and intervening in cases of rights violations. The organization’s goal is to inform and raise awareness about citizenship issues, helping those concerned understand their rights and claim Greek citizenship.

Information and Discussion at Panteion University

Last week, Generation 2.0 RED was at Panteion University to discuss with representatives from migrant communities, civil society members, the academic community, and the general public about contemporary issues surrounding citizenship acquisition in Greece. The meeting analyzed the consequences of living in Greece without a Greek identity and the changes brought about by obtaining it. The history of the struggle for the right to citizenship by migrant communities and organizations in Greece was also discussed, along with how this struggle connects to other significant social demands, such as legal residence and pensions.

The Importance of Cooperation for Defending Rights

Once again, the necessity of collaboration between organizations and communities for the effective advocacy of migrant rights was confirmed. Students, migrants, representatives of institutions, and ordinary citizens participated in the discussion, reminding everyone of the importance of this issue for society and the value of the public university as an open space for meeting and dialogue.

The “NatBureau” Program

The meeting was held as part of the program “NatBureau – Bureaucracies of Naturalization: Exploring the Citizenship Acquisition Process in Greece”, coordinated by Associate Professor of Social Anthropology Katerina Rozakou from Panteion University, with the participation of Generation 2.0 RED. Through this program, we aim to understand and restructure the bureaucratic processes that define citizenship acquisition in Greece, in order to facilitate the integration of migrants into Greek society.

With these actions, Generation 2.0 RED continues to actively support migrants and advocate for their rights, offering the necessary information and guidance for acquiring Greek citizenship.
