WANTED: FEMALE BASIC IT LITERACY TEACHER- Athens-ACTION FOR WOMEN

Action for Women’s main mission is to provide safety, support and hope for women and girls displaced by conflict, violence and persecution.

Our Athens initiative, the Pomegranate Project, offers a holistic protection and empowerment model to enable recovery and healing for women refugees or asylum seekers, at risk or are survivors of gender based violence for meaningful integration within Greek society. We are run for women, entirely by women, and we are recruiting a female Basic IT Literacy teacher to join our team in Athens.

You will be an integral part of our long term core team as you will be responsible for empowering and equipping our participants of the Day Centre with the necessary basic IT literacy skills.

This position commences from 01.10.2021 until March 2022, with the possibility to extend, for a maximum of 20 hours per week. To ensure stability and consistency for our participants, please only apply if you are able to commit for this period of time.

Responsibilities:

  • Tailor and execute lesson plans that are appropriate for the abilities of the students in different classes.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performances in class and on tests and provide feedback and students’ progress, particularly regarding students who need tutoring or other extra assistance.
  • Provide appropriate resources and learning materials for students.
  • Identify varying and creative teaching methods that work best for students who learn differently.
  • Maintain our computer laboratory and keep an inventory of supplies.
  • Ensure that all equipment in our Computer lab is functioning properly, and thoroughly disinfected according to our Covid-19 protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance progress in class, and when necessary, refer students to our Social Worker for needs assessment.
  • Run the classroom within an allocated budget.
  • Conduct skills level assessments of each individual student, prior to commencing any classes

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Exceptional computer skills with extensive knowledge of Google online tools
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Must have understanding of hardware, eg: computer monitors, central processing units, operating systems, hard drives and file storage.
  • Must be detail oriented and mechanically inclined.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the forced migration context in Greece desirable.
  • Previous teaching experience, especially with migrants and refugees preferred.
  • Positive and professional attitude, including ability to work well in a multicultural team setting, with a strong ability to maintain composure, prioritise work under pressure in an environment with high levels of ambiguity;
  • Passionate about empowering women
  • Previous experience working/volunteering in other organisations relating to violence against women and/or female migrants and refugees who are survivors of gender-based violence will be prioritised.
  • Strong communication skills in English (at least B2/C1) a must, in order to conduct classes in English, supported by interpreters, whenever necessary;
  • As we are an international team, our main language of communication is in English. Due to the representation of the languages spoken amongst our participants of the Project, we prefer the successful candidate to be a native English/Farsi/French speaker, with at least B2 /C1 fluency in the other.

WANTED: FEMALE FRENCH COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER- Athens-ACTION FOR WOMEN

Our Athens initiative, the Pomegranate Project, offers a holistic protection and empowerment model to enable recovery and healing for women refugees or asylum seekers, at risk or are survivors of gender based violence for meaningful integration within Greek society. We are run for women, entirely by women, and we are recruiting a female French Community Liaison Office to join our team in Athens.

You will be an integral part of our long term core team as you will be responsible for communicating the needs of our French speaking participants of the Day Centre and Shelter.

This position commences from 01.10.2021 until March 2022, with the possibility to extend, where it is a hybrid of remote working and in person at the Project, for a maximum of 20 hours per week (minimum 10hours). To ensure stability and consistency for our participants, please only apply if you are able to commit for this period of time.

  • Community Engagement: Assisting all team members in need of interpretation (Written and Spoken) to facilitate information sharing and awareness on issues and announcements pertaining to asylum seekers and recognised refugees living in Greece to ensure effective and open communication with our French speaking participants;
  • MHPSS Support: Provide in-person/online interpretation for our Psychologist in individual therapy sessions and weekly group psychosocial support activities;
  • Protection: In-person/online interpretation for our social worker and shelter residents’ meetings. When necessary and based on request by our Social Worker: Accompanying participants of the Project to public services (hospitals, public offices);
  • Skills Acquisition: In-person interpretation for our Basic IT Literacy teacher and Job Counselling sessions with our partner;
  • Under guidance, monitor the attendance and engagement of our French speaking community to identify barriers to participation and facilitate referrals to our Social Worker when necessary.

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Native French speaker with an excellent command (B2/C1) of English (written and spoken). We are an international team, our main language of communication is in English.
  • Candidates who speak Greek/Farsi/Arabic/Lingala/Somali/Tigrinya will be prioritised.
  • High professional ethics
  • Excellent communication skills, listening and observation skills.
  • Strong understanding of the forced migration context in Greece is desirable.
  • Previous experience working/volunteering in other organisations relating to violence against women and/or female migrants and refugees who are survivors of gender-based violence will be prioritised.

Περίληψη θέσης εργασίας:

Η ΚΑΡΙΤΑΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΣ υλοποιεί πάντα έργα κοινωνικής πρόνοιας και αντιμετώπισης καταστάσεων έκτακτης ανάγκης.

Στο πλαίσιο αυτό η ΚΑΡΙΤΑΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΣ και οι εταίροι μας προσφέρουμε σε πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες από τη Συρία, το Αφγανιστάν, το Ιράκ και άλλες χώρες, μέσω προγραμμάτων, ολοκληρωμένες υπηρεσίες, που συμπεριλαμβάνουν την πρόσβαση σε πληροφορίες διαχείρισης της υπόθεσης, παραπομπές, ενσωμάτωση, πολιτιστικές δραστηριότητες και ευκαιρίες μάθησης για ενήλικες και παιδιά σύμφωνα με τα ενδιαφέροντα και τις εκάστοτε ανάγκες αυτών των επωφελουμένων. Οι υπηρεσίες αυτές θα παρέχονται ανάλογα, ή στους χώρους φιλοξενίας της ΚΑΡΙΤΑΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΣ ή στα ήδη υπάρχοντα Κέντρα Λειτουργίας της, με στόχο την στήριξη των ευπαθών αυτών ομάδων.

Η συγκεκριμένη θέση αφορά σε Πρόγραμμα Ενσωμάτωσης Παιδιών Οικογενειών Δικαιούχων Διεθνούς Προστασίας στην Ελλάδα (ESTIA 2021).

Βασικός στόχος του Έργου είναι η υποστήριξη παιδιών οικογενειών δικαιούχων διεθνούς προστασίας στην Ελλάδα προκειμένου να διευκολυνθεί η ένταξή τους και η ενσωμάτωσή τους στον κοινωνικό ιστό μέσα από εκπαιδευτικές δραστηριότητες.

 

Κύρια καθήκοντα

  • Συμμετοχή στην αξιολόγηση των αναγκών των υποστηριζόμενων παιδιών και στο σχεδιασμό της ενταξιακής τους πορείας.
  • Διατήρηση επικοινωνίας με τις οικογένειες των υποστηριζόμενων παιδιών.
  • Ενημέρωση οικογενειών για τη ροή του προγράμματος και τις διαδικασίες αλλαγών του.
  • Πληροφόρηση για υπηρεσίες σε άλλες οργανώσεις και φορείς και όπου αλλού κρίνεται απαραίτητο.
  • Επικοινωνία με συναδέλφους συνεργαζόμενων προγραμμάτων για ζητήματα που αφορούν τα υποστηριζόμενα παιδιά.
  • Συνεργασία με άλλα μέλη της ομάδας έργου και συνεργαζόμενες οργανώσεις και φορείς.
  • Σύνταξη αναφορών, καταχώρηση δεδομένων και τήρηση αρχείων.
  • Συμπλήρωση των απαραίτητων εργαλείων παρακολούθησης.
  • Αρχειοθέτηση και αποθήκευση του φυσικού και ηλεκτρονικού αρχείου υποθέσεων των φιλοξενούμενων.

 

Βασικές απαιτήσεις

  • Πτυχίο Κοινωνικής Εργασίας και άδεια ασκήσεως επαγγέλματος απαραίτητα, μεταπτυχιακός τίτλος σπουδών θα προτιμηθεί.
  • 2-3 χρόνια σχετικής εργασιακής εμπειρίας.
  • Επιθυμητή εμπειρία εργασίας με παιδιά.
  • Εμπειρία εργασίας με ευάλωτες ομάδες ή/και πρόσφυγες – μετανάστες θα εκτιμηθεί.
  • Πολιτισμική ευαισθησία και ανεπτυγμένα επικοινωνιακά προσόντα.
  • Οργανωτικές δεξιότητες και ικανότητα διαχείρισης κρίσεων.
  • Ικανότητα να εργαστεί με προθεσμίες και εντός καθορισμένων προτύπων.
  • Ανεπτυγμένη ικανότητα ευελιξίας και ομαδικού πνεύματος.
  • Άριστη ικανότητα χειρισμού Η/Υ και χρήσης Microsoft (Word, Excel και Outlook).
  • Πολύ καλή γνώση Αγγλικών σε γραπτό και προφορικό λόγο, με επιθυμητή τη γνώση και άλλων γλωσσών όπως γαλλικά, αραβικά και φαρσί.

Context and story to date
Velos Youth is a non-profit organisation founded in May 2017 with the mission of supporting children
and young people to restart and rebuild their lives in Greece.
Velos Youth operates a youth centre in central Athens for young people aged 16-21 years old, where a
range of emotional, material and specialist support services are offered. Through Velos Youth young
people are also supported to access a range of other state and NGO services.
We are a response to the unique and diverse needs of youth on the move in urban Athens, and a place
where young people come together as persons – not profiles – to understand and practice both
difference and unity.

We are looking to build an advisory board to support the work of the existing Directors of Velos Youth in
Athens.

Key responsibilities
As a Velos Youth Advisor you will be responsible for:
● Attending 4 strategy days/meetings per year (alongside directors), for a minimum of one year
● Providing ad hoc advice and support when available via phone or online, according to the
expertise and special interests of the advisor
● Being an advocate for the work of Velos Youth and the needs of our target group

The advisory board will be asked to:
● Commit to the mission of Velos Youth
● Be willing to devote the necessary time and effort
● Commit to acting with integrity at all times
● Over strategic vision and insight regarding the organisation as a whole and in focus-specific areas
● Be willing to provide support/advice ad hoc or at short-notice on certain occasions
● Speak openly and critically, whilst remaining sensitive to the resource scarce reality of a small
grass-roots organisation

This is not a legal position, and does not carry any personal liability, but exists to add to the skills and
expertise of the board of directors, diversifying it where possible. Memorandums of Understanding (not
legally binding), bespoke to the individual, will be signed with Velos Youth in order to formalise this
commitment. Members of the advisory board will be invited to see and experience the work of Velos
Youth first hand to develop a better understanding and insight into the organisation’s work.

Who and what are we looking for?
We are looking to build a team of advisors to help us take Velos Youth into the next phase of its
development. The broad range of skills and/or expertise we would like to welcome onto the board
include the following areas:
● Social work
● Psychology
● Law & human rights
● Communications
● Advocacy
● Accounting & Finance
● Lived experience

We are looking to build a board that is diverse and inclusive, and so in particular welcome applications
from those under the age of 25 and/or those who have experienced similar journeys to those faced by
the young people we work with.
Experience of working in the humanitarian and NGO fields and/or with small to medium sized
organisations will be a significant advantage.
It is preferred that individuals who apply are located in, or close to, Greece
