Position: Social Worker

Position Summary: The Social Worker is expected to identify Unaccompanied and Separated minors & vulnerable cases in the Evros region and to ensure access to suitable protection environment.

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with HumanRights360 lawyer and other actors on the field, identifies vulnerable cases among refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, with focus on unaccompanied and separated children and works on the determination of his/her BIA (Best Interest Assessment)
  • Drafts a comprehensive social intake document for unaccompanied and separated children and works with the beneficiary to ensure avoiding extensive use of detention/”protective custody”, swift transfer to a suitable protection environment and access to the best possible process according to the BIA (asylum process, family reunification etc.);
  • Works with the Authorities and other actors to ensure a multi-disciplinary age assessment and use of the best interest assessment
  • Works with the local Public Prosecutor of Minors, EKKA and all other authorities in order to transfer unaccompanied and separated children to suitable protection environment (Open Reception Facilities);
  • Conducts regular individual counselling with children in need, and provide referrals to medical, psychosocial and any other support necessary
  • Follow up in a case-management fashion, on the referral of the identified individuals
  • Ensures the confidentiality of personal information of unaccompanied and separated children.
  • Maps existing gaps in both the national system and works with the Advocacy Officer to press for institutional change.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned

Required qualifications and skills

Financial/Legal

  • To support financial administration and to monitor programmes.
