Since May 2017 Velos Youth has been working in Athens with young people aged 16 – 21 who face difficulties accessing vital resources.   1. A daytime sanctuary through a safe and relaxed space where young people can

access support from both professionals and members of the refugee community.

Job Description:

Velos Youth is looking for a cultural mediator to interpret from Bangla AND Urdu to English. The role will be primarily based in the youth centre, 5 days a week, supporting workshops and one to one conversations. During quarantine periods due to Covid-19, the role will be based from home will. The ideal person will have experience interpreting between Bangla and Urdu to English languages as well as working with young people. Velos is a space where young people can feel safe and supported and the successful applicant needs to have patience and understanding for a teenage population living in challenging circumstances. We are accepting applications from all individuals, regardless of gender and gender identity, race, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, age, and ability.

Applicants must be 22 years old and over (due to the age of young people attending Velos).

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting in one to one meetings between young people and youth support workers.
  • Providing interpretation in a variety of workshops and activities within Velos.
  • Translating written material such as posters and informative documents.
  • Developing daily activities, having discussions with the YP, and observing the YP’s needs and situations
  • Organising and coordinating reception into the youth centre
  • Assisting with outdoor activities.
  • Supporting the day to day running of Velos Youth including cleaning and other daily tasks.
  • Attending team meetings.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Fluent in Bangla, Urdu and English.
  • Experience in Cultural Mediation or interpretation.
  • Experience in interpreting 1-1 conversations which may involve sensitive content.
  • Good written communication in Bangla and Urdu.
  • Strong interest in working with young people.
  • Ability to engage with adolescents from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a diverse team.

General Position Description:

The purpose of the position is to support asylum-seeking and refugee youth, children and their families, through the provision of case management services implemented in accordance with standardized procedures and the laws of Greece.

The case worker will be in charge of receiving referrals, case assessment, planning, implementation, follow up and closure of cases; ensuring that the at risk cases receive a comprehensive and tailored package of support (e.g. UASCs, children with medical conditions, SGBV survivors, Victims of Torture, Victims of trafficking etc.).

The job location depends on assignment and may change according to evolving needs and funding. According to the project needs, related case management tasks might need to be undertaken in other regions and with changing working schedule (for example: in case of accompanying beneficiaries to asylum seekers appointments in the various asylum offices or assessing referred cases in different locations).

Key responsibilities:

Case Management Activities

  • Support and implement project activities in line with the project plan.
  • Ensure activities are delivered in line with international human rights and humanitarian principles and Greek Law; (for example respecting the child protection systems of Greece).
  • Manage cases in line with Tdh SOPs, required documentation, and Inter Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines for Case Management and Child Protection, adhering to the fundamental principles of case management, (Do No Harm, Prioritiseing the Best Interests of the child, confidentiality & data protection, coordination, etc.).
  • Ensure the timely identification and registration of vulnerable cases for assessment, and accept and handle referrals of cases according to standardized procedures.
  • Ensure the consent/assent/permission is sought from all relevant parties to proceed with case management activities.
  • Conduct assessments and prioritize the most urgent needs to be responded to including: shelter, food, health, MHPSS, and legal needs, and facilitate access to specialized care as needed (medical care, counselling etc), and liaise with all relevant statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Work with supervisor to arrange case conferences for cases and ensure target population receive multidisciplinary support.
  • Develop an individual case plan for each case addressing the needs identified. Set time-bound, measureable objectives and seek support when required.
  • Make necessary arrangements to provide direct services or referrals to ensure the timely implementation of individual action plans.
  • Accompany target population members to public services and external actors if required.
  • Follow up and review assigned cases as scheduled to ensure all services and action points listed in the case plan are carried out within agreed time frames; providing guidance and advice where required.
  • Document case progress using agreed upon forms, update databases and reporting tools to ensure a comprehensive record of the case and determine need for continued follow up, reassessment or case closure.
  • Be ready to provide immediate response to emergency cases including high risk / life-threatening issues requiring a response within 24 hours.
  • Participate in awareness sessions and trainings if required.
  • Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to ensure the timely submission of accurate reports and data respecting data protection protocols and confidentiality.
  • Ensure timely submission of weekly plans and reports to the line manager.
  • Support supervisor to establish a child protection referral pathway and train front-line staffing working with / in contact with children to identify and refer cases of concern safely.
  • Support supervisor in capacity building activities as required.

Coordination and Representation

  • Identify and network with external service providers and ensure that an effective referral system is made available for youth, young adults, children and their family members in compliance with the Greek legal framework.
  • Establish and maintain positive and efficient relations with target population, community members and all the other actors. Seek for synergies to optimize resources and time, and strengthen services whenever possible.
  • Participate in fora and meetings at local or regional level and liaise with humanitarian actors, authorities and other sector to disseminate information, best practices, lessons learned, etc when required.
  • Participate in other needs assessments and surveys when required.
  • Liaise with other organizations and available services that perform protection and recreational activities for children, young adults, adults and promote their rights

Risk Management/Other

  • Comply with the Tdh Global Code of Conduct and ensure Child Safeguarding standards throughout the organization and with partners; report any concern to Child Safeguarding Policy Focal Point.
  • Comply with all operational risk management policies: Whistle Blowing Policy, Anti Fraud and Corruption Policy as well as with the Security Plan of the organization and strengthen their implementation with the project team.
  • Report directly through the established internal reporting procedures any security incidents or serious cases of abuse and mistreatment of beneficiaries ensuring confidentiality at all stages.
  • Adhere to and enforce Tdh administrative regulations and procedures as well as Tdh IT and driving policies and SoPs to the team under responsibility.

Candidate profile:

  • At least 1 year of experience in social work and/or experience of similar position in the field
  • University degree in Social Work with professional license preferable
  • Previous experience with an NGO is desirable.
  • Proven track record and experience in emergencies (knowledge of social and psychological work would be an advantage).
  • Ability to work under pressure and cope with challenging environments.
  • Experience working with extremely vulnerable individuals is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of Greek legislation with regard to protecting children and local and national referral pathways.
  • Knowledge of key protection and legal issues in the asylum-seeking population and best practices.
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian response and development work.
  • Ability to work in an inter-cultural environment.

The psychologist supports Tdh mental health and psychosocial support interventions (MHPSS) in all stages of case management activities for Unaccompanied Minors residing in the Safe Zones (SZ):, assessment, planning, implementation, follow up and review, and closure of cases. They provide MHPSS technical advice, and also design and implement focused and non-focused PSS activities which respond to identified needs of the unaccompanied children found in the SZ.

The Safe Zone psychologist works closely with other mental health and psychosocial support actors including the Hellenic Organization for Public Health (EODY) in order to map and update as needed referral pathways, support and strengthen existing interventions.

The psychologist will be based in the Safe Zones for Unaccompanied Children of Veria, Thessaloniki region.

Key responsibilities:

Design and Strategy

  1. Support with MHPSS needs assessments of the target population.
  2. Support efforts to map and identify external mental health and PSS services for referrals.
  3. Provides input into the design of relevant MHPSS response strategies and interventions to strengthen MHPSS service delivery.

Direct Service Delivery

  1. Keep social workers informed of relevant referral pathways for MHPSS cases.
  2. Support interventions to train and mentor caregivers, case workers and interpreters   to run non-specialised PSS activities.
  3. Deliver individual and group PSS activities which address identified needs and incorporate appropriate mental health approaches and models (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic, person-centred approach, systemic approach, etc.) for the unaccompanied children; including but not limited to psycho-education and mental health awareness.
  4. Ensure that activities are delivered in line with international human rights and Greek Law.
  5. Ensure that activities are implemented in line Tdh’s Standard Operation Procedures and documentation requirements, adhere to the fundamental principles of Interagency Standing Committee MHPSS Guidelines (e.g. Do No Harm, Multi-layered supports, confidentiality & data protection, coordination, etc.).
  6. Support social workers with case management activities as requested (e.g. during assessment, case planning, referral, follow up, case conferences, etc.).
  7. Accompany target population members to public services and external actors if required.
  8. Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to ensure the timely submission of accurate reports and data respecting data protection protocols and confidentiality.

Background of the Project

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been providing medical and humanitarian assistance to migrants and refugees worldwide. Since October 2014 MSF OCB provides support to migrants and refugees who have suffered torture and other forms of ill-treatment in Athens. MSF Survivors of Torture (SoT) clinic offers functional recovery services, including medical care, physiotherapy, mental health and social support to survivors of torture and ill-treatment.

Main Purpose of the Position

Perform basic psychosocial interventions to patients at community level following MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their psychosocial condition and providing MSF with an understanding of community socio-cultural determinants.

Accountabilities

  • Actively promote the availability of MSF services and perform identification of patients following MSF SoT Project Standard Operating Protocols;
  • Carry out, individually or in group, basic counselling to patients of the community applying specific methods (such as PM+ etc.) and/ or health education sessions if needed and requested by supervisor;
  • Refer patients when necessary to other specialists or external actors in order to provide the best available support following MSF referral paths, make a follow-up of each case outcome and report;
  • Collect and report specific information related to patients’ communities’ dynamics context and needs.
  • Keep patient record updated, perform data collection and provide regular activity report;
  • Participate to any other community activity according to the needs of the project.

Requirements

  • Applicants should be part of the Afghan, Congolese or Arabic-speakers communities in Athens or greater Attica area.

Περίληψη θέσης εργασίας:

Η ΚΑΡΙΤΑΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΣ υλοποιεί πάντα έργα κοινωνικής πρόνοιας και αντιμετώπισης καταστάσεων έκτακτης ανάγκης.

Η συγκεκριμένη θέση αφορά σε Πρόγραμμα Στέγασης και Ενσωμάτωσης Δικαιούχων Διεθνούς Προστασίας στην Ελλάδα (HELIOSII).

Βασικός στόχος του Έργου είναι η υποστήριξη δικαιούχων διεθνούς προστασίας στην Ελλάδα προκειμένου να διευκολυνθεί η ένταξή τους και η ενσωμάτωσή τους στον κοινωνικό ιστό.

Κύρια καθήκοντα:

Πρωταρχικός ρόλος του- (της) «Υπεύθυνου -(ης) Πεδίου και Διασύνδεσης» είναι η διερμηνεία στην επικοινωνία και η διασύνδεση με την ομάδα στόχο (Δικαιούχοι Διεθνούς Προστασίας) για την ένταξή τους στο Πρόγραμμα καθώς και η υλοποίηση δράσεων παρακολούθησης των υποθέσεων επωφελούμενων έτσι όπως αυτές σχεδιάζονται από τον Εκπαιδευτικό/Αρχηγό Ομάδας, πάντα σύμφωνα με τις οδηγίες του ΔΟΜ.

Μεταξύ άλλων καθηκόντων ο-(η)Διερμηνέας / (ο)-(η) Υπεύθυνος  Πεδίου και Στέγασης:

Συνεργάζεται με άλλους Υπεύθυνους Πεδίου και Στέγασης από την ομάδα, αλλά και άλλους φορείς και συνεισφέρει στην επιτόπια και εξ αποστάσεως ενημέρωση και εγγραφή των επωφελούμενων στο πρόγραμμα οικονομικής στήριξης αυτόνομης ενοικίασης στέγης (cash for rent).

  • Παρακολουθεί με τον υπεύθυνο του, την πορεία των εγγεγραμμένων επωφελούμενων στο Πρόγραμμα και πραγματοποιεί κάθε σχετική ενέργεια για την ομαλή ολοκλήρωση κάθε υπόθεσης στο πλέγμα δράσεων υπό τον τίτλο «Στέγαση».
  • Συντάσσει και συνεισφέρει στην ηλεκτρονική διατήρηση αρχείων και ανταλλαγής πληροφορίας σχετικής με την πορεία των επωφελούμενων στο πρόγραμμα, πάντα σύμφωνα με τους κανόνες για την διαχείριση των προσωπικών δεδομένων.
  • Παρέχει υπηρεσίες δημιουργίας ενημερωτικού υλικού, προετοιμασίας και διεξαγωγής ενημερωτικών ομαδικών ή ατομικών συναντήσεων κατά την διάρκεια επισκέψεων σε Ανοιχτές Δομές Φιλοξενίας και ξενοδοχείων Πρόγραμμα Filoxenia του ΔΟΜ.
  • Παρέχει ανάλογα με τις γνώσεις του γλωσσική υποστήριξη (στα Αραβικά) σε όλη την ομάδα υλοποίησης του έργου.
  • Συμμετέχει σε συνεδρίες και συναντήσεις με τους ωφελούμενους και συνεργαζόμενους φορείς (δραστηριότητες του καθημερινού προγράμματος, συνοδείες σε χώρους παροχής υπηρεσιών στους ωφελούμενους, επισκέψεις, ταξίδια, έρευνες, εργαστήρια, συναντήσεις συντονισμού κ.λπ.)
  • Μεταφράζει κείμενα στις απαιτούμενες γλώσσες.
  • Συγγράφει αναφορές στην Ελληνική ή/και την Αγγλική γλώσσα.
  • Συνεργάζεται στενά με τον Υπεύθυνο Ομάδας Πεδίου και Στέγασης και τον υπεύθυνο προγράμματος, ώστε να εξασφαλιστεί η ομαλή πρόοδος και ανάπτυξη των δράσεων του Προγράμματος σε τοπικό επίπεδο.

 

Βασικές απαιτήσεις

  • Απολυτήριο, Δίπλωμα ή Πτυχίο Ανώτερης ή Ανώτατης Σχολής.
  • Απαραίτητη η προϋπηρεσία σε θέση ευθύνης.
  • Τουλάχιστον δύο (2) έτη εμπειρίας σε αντίστοιχη θέση στον τομέα του προσφυγικού.
  • Επιμόρφωση, εργασία σε Μ.Κ.Ο. ή εθελοντική εργασία σε σχετική θέση.
  • Άριστη γνώση της Ελληνικής ή/και της Αγγλικής σε γραπτό και προφορικό λόγο.
  • Απαραίτητη ή άριστη γνώση της γλώσσας Αραβικών.
  • Ικανότητα εργασίας σε απαιτητικό περιβάλλον.
  • Πολιτισμική ευαισθησία και άριστες επικοινωνιακές ικανότητες.
  • Ομαδική εργασία, ευελιξία.
  • Ικανότητα σύνταξης αναφορών και διατήρησης αρχείων.

  • Επιθυμητή η γνώση της Κοινωνικής Διδασκαλίας της Καθολικής Εκκλησίας.
  • Δίπλωμα οδήγησης αυτοκινήτου σε ισχύ στην Ελλάδα απαραίτητο.
  • Δυνατότητα για Ταξίδια: Ταξίδια/μετακίνηση και διανυκτέρευση, όταν αυτό απαιτείται από το πρόγραμμα, σε περιοχές υλοποίησης του Προγράμματος ανά την Ελλάδα.

Εργασιακό Περιβάλλον: Η εργασία πραγματοποιείται σε χώρους υλοποίησης των προγραμμάτων στην Πελοπόννησο και την Αττική με βάση την Αθήνα.

Οι αιτήσεις θα εξετασθούν από την επιτροπή αξιολόγησης και θα κληθούν σε συνέντευξη οι υποψήφιοι που καλύπτουν τις προδιαγραφές της θέσης σύμφωνα με τα τυπικά τους προσόντα. Η επιτροπή αξιολόγησης θα εξετάσει τους υποψήφιους σύμφωνα με τα κριτήρια επιλογής. Με βάση το βιογραφικό και την συνέντευξη, θα προτείνει την λήψη απόφασης στο Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο.

Οι υποψήφιοι που θα κληθούν για συνέντευξη, πρέπει να έχουν μαζί τους κατά την ημέρα της συνέντευξης:

Υπεύθυνη δήλωση του Ν.1599/1986, θεωρημένη για το γνήσιο της υπογραφής του δηλούντα, ότι:

α) τα στοιχεία που αναφέρονται στη δήλωση είναι ακριβή και αληθή και

β) τα αντίγραφα των τίτλων σπουδών, των άλλων στοιχείων κ.λπ., είναι ακριβή αντίγραφα από τα αντίστοιχα γνήσια πρωτότυπα έγγραφα.

Ο υποψήφιος που θα επιλεγεί και που στη συνέχεια θα προσληφθεί από το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της Κάριτας Αθήνας, υποχρεούται να προσκομίσει φωτοτυπία των πτυχίων, ειδικότητας, μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου ή διδακτορικού ή ισότιμου τίτλου σπουδών της αλλοδαπής, αναγνωρισμένου στην Ελλάδα και οποιοδήποτε έγγραφο τεκμηρίωσης των στοιχείων αυτών, καθώς και τυχόν άλλων αποδεικτικών στοιχείων.
