The aim of the project Coming to Live is to allow children and adult refugees to develop mental and cultural perspectives, to build bridges so as to support them in their effort to integrate themselves independently into the receiving countries. The personal history and the cultural identity of each- the shelter seeking and the receiving people – with their own competence of integration are the basis of our work.

We work with refugees experienced in theater or pedagogy. We provide them with theater skills as well as implementation skills for groups of children. In that way, we build on site structures of self-empowerment that bring together local people and refugees, both adults and children, in order to integrate themselves with theatric methods into the new society. Theater operates as debate, cultural exchange and labour perspective.

We are a group of people with long experience in intercultural theater projects in Switzerland, Berlin, Diyarbakir, Erbil, Georgia and other places.

The project Coming to Live is part of the Woven Theater Project which has been successfully running in Erbil since last year. It addresses children and adult refugees mainly from Syria, who live in refugee camps in the autonomous Kurdish region in Iraq. We are working with two camps that accommodate 6.000 families each. The theatre workshops are taking place outside the camps.
